Lord Mayor Ubangoh launched the ONE CHILD ONE BIRTH CERTIFICATE target of Andek Council 5th February 2025
To achieve the ONE CHILD ONE BIRTH CERTIFICATE target, of Andek Council,
The Lord Mayor of Andek Council, Mr. Ubangoh Helly, acting as the Coordinator of the Platform for Civil Status Actors of Andek Council, launched the activities of the platform today, 5th February 2025, in the presence of the Divisional Officer for Ngie Subdivision, Mr. Oteh Philip BACHE.
The Mayor used the opportunity to explain the functions of the committee which, amongst others, include:
i. Facilitate inter-institutional actions to boost the activities of the Civil Status main and Secondary Centres.
ii. Sensitize and educate the public on the need to obtain civil status documents at the appropriate moments.
iii. Ensure that civil status documents are issued free of charge.
iv. Combat illicit practices in the civil status system in the municipality.
V. Put in place appropriate strategies to assist the population in obtaining court declaratory judgments for the issuance of free birth certificates.
vi. Facilitate the establishment of free birth certificates especially for children of less than 12 months of age.
vii. Create more birth registration points in local Centres.
The Lord Mayor explained the innovations in the new law No 2024/016,
– To organize the Civil Registration System in Cameroon; The law grants legal recognition to customary marriages, enhancing the protection for couples married according to local customs, and addressing concerns about safeguarding women’s rights within the context of customary marriages
– The new law extends the period for issuance of birth certificates without a court declaratory judgment from 90 days to 12 months, with the implication of Divisional officers.
The Mayor promised to henceforth issue birth certificates on the spot, in the various Health Centres when a new baby is born.
The following very important announcements were made to the applause of the attendees:
– The recruitment of a Medical Doctor, by the Mayor, to serve Ngie at the Andek Medicalized Health Centre.
– The effective recommencement of serious work, to complete the rehabilitation of roads in the municipality.
CLEAN CITY Competition.
The clean city competition in Andek Municipality, with the Divisional officer as Chairman, was launched during the platform meeting. And the first prize was tagged at 1,000,000F CFA.
The Various Neighborhoods are encouraged to participate in this competition, which is aimed at keeping the municipality clean and healthy.
THE DIVISIONAL OFFICER PRAISED THE EFFORT OF THE LORD MAYOR.
The Divisional Officer took time to congratulate the Lord Mayor of Andek for the efforts he is making to effectively bring development to the Municipality. The DO pledged to continue to give the Mayor the support he needs, especially as it concerns security, for the realization of his activities on the field.
