THE EVOLUTION OF ANDEK COUNCIL

Andek Council Primarily called Andek Rural Council is the decentralized local collectivety for Ngie Sub-Division of Momo Division in Northwest Cameroon. The Council was created in 1995 by ministerial order No. 95/082 of 24/04/1995 and went operational in 1996. The Council started operating in Ngie community Hall located at Ebah quarter in Andek from creation till 2014 when it then transferred to the presently buildup site. Premier Councillors of Andek Council were elected through an indirect universal suffrage and they then elected their executive through a direct universal suffrage, composed of a Mayor with two Deputies. The numerical strength of the Councillors was determined by the law on local authority which stated specifically that a municipality with
less than fifty thousand inhabitants will have twenty-five (25) Councillors and so did Andek Council follow therein.  In 2004, the new law on decentralization and local development came in with amends whereby the appellation   Andek Rural Council changed to Andek council.

Andek Council is located between latitudes 5°43 and 6°10, and longitude 9°55, with a North-South maximum diameter of about 22kms. It is situated at a distance of 50 Kilometers from Bamenda, the regional headquarters of the North West and 30 kilometers from Mbengwi, the Divisional headquarters.
Geographically, Ngie Sub Division is perfectly in the center of Momo Division, sharing common borders respectively with Mbengwi Sub Division in the North, Njikwa Sub Division in the West, Widikum-Boffe Sub Division in the South and Batibo Sub Division in the East.
